Week 16

Week 16: Final Blog      What I have learned in this class is the ability to identify specific textiles and fabrics but also learn when and where to use them. This will help me in my career when dealing with clients and their specific needs such as what kind of lifestyle they live, what health conditions they may have, and what their style is. Leaning about how different fibers are made and how they are turned into fabrics helped give me more clarity about the different fabrics I should choose for my projects to come. An "aha" moment I had in this class was seeing fabrics that I have known my whole life and seeing how they are manufactured and constructed made sense to me.

Week #16- Bethany Snyder

Write and post a summary paragraph outlining the key takeaways from this course and what if any information you will use going forward in your coursework and career. Share any “Aha” moments/learning experiences that you feel other students will benefit from.   This class has been really helpful and I can already see how it’ll benefit me in the future. The part that will stick with me the most is learning about the different fabric types and what they’re best used for. The textiles binder was super helpful because I could actually see and feel all the different fabrics, which made everything a lot easier to understand. My biggest "Aha" moment was when we visited Brentano. It was such a great experience and gave me a better understanding of how the textiles industry works. I think other students would benefit from this experience too because it was so eye-opening and gave us real-world insight into the industry.

Week #16- Sami Ford

In textiles I learned a lot about fabrics and the textile industry as a whole. I would say that a key takeaway from this course was all the different components that go into a fabric. The fiber content, weave type, coatings, size, and so much more! Learning what fibers and weaves and types of fabrics work for each setting and application was both interesting and extremely useful.   I think that my major Aha moment came when we went on our field trips. Getting to meet Iris Wang was an amazing opportunity ! I love learning how things work, so being able to see the entire process from start to finish of how the Brentano Factory works was a life chang ing opportunity! Starting from Iris Wang's watercolors and drawings and ending with the final fabrics was so cool!

#15: Research initiatives: Discuss Textile products for baths and the various levels of quality in terms of design innovation as well as material and functional quality.  Textile products for the bath, like towels, bathrobes, and shower curtains, come in all sorts of qualities, depending on design, materials, and how well they function. Higher-end options usually have design features, like moisture-wicking or antimicrobial treatments, and use premium materials like Egyptian cotton or bamboo. These not only feel luxurious but also perform well, drying quickly or offering extra absorbency. On the other hand, more basic products tend to use simpler materials, like standard cotton or synthetics, which might not have as many innovative touches and don’t always last as long or work as well. High-Quality Towles Low-quality towels Discuss Textile bedding products and the various levels of quality in terms of design innovation as well as material and functional quality.  When it...

Research Initiatives: Week 15 INT 323 Eva Serrato Bath Towel Quality: The qualities of bath towels are important. Usually when towels are mixed with mostly cheap synthetic materials (depending on the materials) these towels can look cheap and not absorb water well. Cotton and poly blends are good for bath towels because these towels can be a better quality but also be cheaper because they are using a cotton and poly blend. The highest quality of towels can be 100% quality cotton. These towels are extremely absorbent and durable.  The design, patter, construction, and weave of the towel can also play into the quality of the towel. Usually, basic towels with one color and minimal types of weaves are characterized as lower quality.  This can be seen down below. Medium to high quality towels can be seen to have various colors and weaves, even jacquard weaves. Different types of patterns can be characterized as high-quality towels as well. This can be seen in the image down below. ...

#16 Eliana Johnson Summary

Textiles play a critical role in defining the aesthetics, functionality, and durability of both residential and commercial interiors. In residential spaces, textiles like curtains, upholstery, and rugs contribute to comfort, warmth, and a personalized ambiance, often reflecting individual tastes through patterns, colors, and textures. In contrast, commercial interiors emphasize professionalism and brand identity, with textiles chosen for their ability to create a cohesive and functional environment. Durability and maintenance are significant considerations for both settings, but commercial spaces demand textiles that withstand high traffic, are stain-resistant, and are easy to clean, often favoring performance fabrics and synthetic blends. Functionality is another key factor, with textiles often selected for their acoustic properties to reduce noise in open-plan commercial spaces or their ability to insulate and regulate temperature in residential settings. Safety and compliance a...

Research Initiatives: Week 14 INT 323 Eva Serrato Carpet Tile Installation: For carpet tile installation you first have to make sure that the sub floor is in the correct condition and any sort of padding is installed beforehand. There are different patterns that need to be decided before installation starts. After this is decided then how the tiles will be planned when they intersect a doorway or a corner and this can be decided by a dry lay which is laying the carpets down before they are glued. Then the tiles need to acclimate to the humidity of the room. Then the adhesive is placed, either a peel and stick or a direct glue down. Usually starting in the middle of the room to the outside would be most efficient.  Carpet tiles can show more seams; however the installation can be easier as well as the repair can be cheaper that wall to wall because the individual tile can be removed. Wall to Wall Installation: For wall-to-wall carpet installation it is important that the subfloor is...
