Carpet Tile Installation:

For carpet tile installation you first have to make sure that the sub floor is in the correct condition and any sort of padding is installed beforehand. There are different patterns that need to be decided before installation starts. After this is decided then how the tiles will be planned when they intersect a doorway or a corner and this can be decided by a dry lay which is laying the carpets down before they are glued. Then the tiles need to acclimate to the humidity of the room. Then the adhesive is placed, either a peel and stick or a direct glue down. Usually starting in the middle of the room to the outside would be most efficient.
Carpet tiles can show more seams; however the installation can be easier as well as the repair can be cheaper that wall to wall because the individual tile can be removed.

Wall to Wall Installation:

For wall-to-wall carpet installation it is important that the subfloor is filled in and does not have any cracks or bumps and it is a smooth surface. This will ensure that the carpet is installed smoothly. Choosing the right padding depending on the room and use is important before laying down the carpet. Once this is done installing the tack strips are in place at the perimeter of the room to pull the carpet in place. Then the carpet gets measured, matched at the seams, rolled, secured, and cut. Then the access carpet is pulled and stapled in to make sure it does not move. Below is a tool used to stretch the carpet.

Wall to Wall carpet installation give a more cohesive look with no seams or pattern changes, however the repairs can be costly because usually the whole floor needs to be torn up unlike carpet tiles

Similarities and Differences:

Instead of just measuring and cutting the carpet like carpet tile does, wall to wall carpet has to have a tool that stretches the carpet and a tool to staple and shove the carpet into the outline of the room.

Carpet tile has more freedom to have different directions and patterns, however the seams are usually seen, and the installation only involves glue, tape, or and a tool to measure and cut.
