Week #16- Sami Ford

In textiles I learned a lot about fabrics and the textile industry as a whole. I would say that a key takeaway from this course was all the different components that go into a fabric. The fiber content, weave type, coatings, size, and so much more! Learning what fibers and weaves and types of fabrics work for each setting and application was both interesting and extremely useful.  

I think that my major Aha moment came when we went on our field trips. Getting to meet Iris Wang was an amazing opportunity! I love learning how things work, so being able to see the entire process from start to finish of how the Brentano Factory works was a life changing opportunity! Starting from Iris Wang's watercolors and drawings and ending with the final fabrics was so cool!

Research Initiatives: Week 14 INT 323 Eva Serrato Carpet Tile Installation: For carpet tile installation you first have to make sure that the sub floor is in the correct condition and any sort of padding is installed beforehand. There are different patterns that need to be decided before installation starts. After this is decided then how the tiles will be planned when they intersect a doorway or a corner and this can be decided by a dry lay which is laying the carpets down before they are glued. Then the tiles need to acclimate to the humidity of the room. Then the adhesive is placed, either a peel and stick or a direct glue down. Usually starting in the middle of the room to the outside would be most efficient.  Carpet tiles can show more seams; however the installation can be easier as well as the repair can be cheaper that wall to wall because the individual tile can be removed.
