However, it is more expensive due to more waste and extensive labor costs.   Carpet can be installed in one of three ways : glue down , stretch-in method, tack strip installation , or a floating method (which is not permanently installed) .   First you must prep the floors to make sure they are level and clean to allow the carpet to adhere properly and lay flat.   Then you prepare the attachment features; tacks strips , glue, and possibly some sort of padding or cushioning .   Next for wall-to-wall carpet you must make sure that your strip is the right size (cut it accordingly) and install.
