  • Wall-to-wall carpet

  • Wall-to-wall carpet covers large areas, or an entire room, allowing for a seamless, long-lasting, beautiful flooring. However, it is more expensive due to more waste and extensive labor costs. Carpet can be installed in one of three ways: glue down, stretch-in method, tack strip installation, or a floating method (which is not permanently installed).

  • First you must prep the floors to make sure they are level and clean to allow the carpet to adhere properly and lay flat.

  • Then you prepare the attachment features; tacks strips, glue, and possibly some sort of padding or cushioning.

  • Next for wall-to-wall carpet you must make sure that your strip is the right size (cut it accordingly) and install. In a stretch method you will then use a machine to stretch the carpet over the tack strips.

  • Lastly, you will make sure to trim and secure any edges to prevent them from fraying and create a completed design.

  • Carpet tile

  • Carpet tiles are modular shapes that can cover small or large areas, they are both easy to install (and replace) and are generally cheaper. These can either be glued down or have their own adhesive, being peal and stick (or simply a floating method, which can simply be put down or taken up).

  • First you should prep the floors to make sure they are level and clean to allow the carpet to adhere properly and lay flat.

  • Then you should either apply adhesive or peel off the backing and start the installation in a corner or the center of the room.

  • Finally, press down the tiles firmly to make sure they are properly adhered and trim any edges as needed.

  • Area Rugs

  • Area rugs are added on top of flooring to add comfort, protect floors, and add visual interest. Area rugs are not permanently installed but may be secured to the ground to prevent moving or slipping. This can be done using a pad underneath, taping, or securing the corners using weights.

  • First clean the flooring before you lay anything down to allow a level and clean surface.

  • Then figure out the placement/configuration of where you want the rug.

  • Next if you are using a pad, lay that down. If you are using double-sided tape, lay the rug down first and then flip up the edges, adhere the tape to the rug and floor. If you are using anchors, lay down the rug and then attach the anchors to the corners.

  • Maintenance

  • Rugs and carpets should be cleaned somewhat frequently to maintain their appearance. Ideally, they should be vacuumed once to twice a week. If there is spillage, this should be cleaned as soon as possible, so that it is not stained. Lastly, to make your soft floor coverings last as long as possible, it is advised to have a professional come to clean them, roughly every 12-18 months to thoroughly cleanse the rug/carpet.
