Research Initiatives #15- Sami Ford
1. When it comes to bath products they can vary in quality, materials, and functionality. The most common fiber used for bath textiles is cotton, however, synthetic fibers are also used, which are usually considered lower quality. The highest quality products are Egyptian cotton, which have great because of their absorbency, softness, durability, breathability, and are easy to clean. Additionally, antimicrobial treatments are often added to prevent unwanted bacteria and fungi from growing.
2. In bedding products can also vary in quality, materials, and functionality. Quality often depends on thread count and the type of fibers. More breathable materials are made from fibers such as cotton, bamboo, linen, or silk. While other fabrics hold in heat more, such as acrylic and polyester. Egyptian cotton and silk are considered highest quality due to their softness, durability, breathability, and being easy to clean. Plus, there are cosmetotextiles that use nanotechnology to keep the fabric from getting wrinkly and claim to have skin-smoothing properties. While bath products quality relies highly on their absorbency, bedding products quality relies on their thermal control.
