They involve cleaning and leveling the subfloor, applying adhesive, and placing tiles in customizable patterns like monolithic, quarter-turn, or brick. Their modular design allows for easy replacement of damaged sections and greater flexibility in design, though they may not achieve the same seamless look as wall-to-wall carpeting and can wear at the edges over time. Area rugs are the simplest to install, requiring only placement on a non-slip pad for safety. While wall-to-wall carpeting suits large, uniform spaces, carpet tiles offer versatility and cost-effectiveness for dynamic or frequently updated areas, making each option suitable for different needs and aesthetics.

Maintaining carpets and area rugs requires regular care to preserve their appearance and durability. Routine vacuuming, especially in high-traffic areas, prevents dirt buildup and matting, while prompt spot cleaning with appropriate solutions helps avoid stains. Annual deep cleaning, either professionally or with suitable DIY methods, removes embedded dirt and revitalizes fibers. Preventative measures, such as using rugs or mats in high-traffic zones, placing furniture pads under heavy items, and rotating area rugs, help minimize wear and fading. Protecting carpets and rugs from direct sunlight and maintaining proper humidity levels prevent damage and discoloration. Material-specific care is essential, with delicate rugs like wool or silk requiring gentler handling. Additionally, using baking soda can help deodorize and reduce allergens. By combining regular maintenance with protective practices, carpets and area rugs can remain attractive and functional for years.

Research Initiatives: Week 14 INT 323 Eva Serrato Carpet Tile Installation: For carpet tile installation you first have to make sure that the sub floor is in the correct condition and any sort of padding is installed beforehand. There are different patterns that need to be decided before installation starts. After this is decided then how the tiles will be planned when they intersect a doorway or a corner and this can be decided by a dry lay which is laying the carpets down before they are glued. Then the tiles need to acclimate to the humidity of the room. Then the adhesive is placed, either a peel and stick or a direct glue down.
