Pile yarn height and weight are key factors in carpet and textile durability, comfort, and maintenance. Pile height, which measures the fiber length, ranges from low (under 0.25 inches), ideal for high-traffic areas, to high (over 0.5 inches), offering a plush feel but requiring more upkeep. Pile weight, or face weight, reflects the yarn density and typically varies from low (under 30 oz./sq yd) for light use, to high (over 40 oz./sq yd) for luxury settings. Higher weights and shorter heights generally enhance durability, while higher heights and weights increase softness but demand extra care. Balancing these elements is essential for functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Cut and loop and multilevel carpets each offer unique textures and advantages for various spaces. Cut and loop combines cut and looped fibers, allowing for intricate patterns and a plush feel that’s visually appealing and durable, ideal for areas needing both style and resilience, like offices or hotel lobbies. Multilevel carpet, with loops of varying heights, creates a subtle, sculpted look that’s highly durable and resistant to matting, making it perfect for high-traffic areas such as hallways and conference rooms. Both styles are good at hiding dirt and wear, but cut and loop carpets add more design flexibility, while multilevel carpets emphasize durability.

EF Contract’s Carpet Reclamation Program promotes environmental responsibility by enabling customers to recycle used carpet and luxury vinyl tile (LVT), regardless of the brand. Customers initiate the process by requesting a quote, and EF arranges containers and shipping logistics, helping ensure materials are processed responsibly rather than sent to landfills. For each reclaimed load, customers receive a certificate verifying the recycling. Since 2009, the program has reclaimed over 5.6 million pounds of flooring, contributing significantly to reducing landfill waste.
Elmwood Reclaimed Timber
Reclaimed hardwood flooring and paneling offer rich character through unique markings like saw marks, nail holes, and natural patina, making them popular for eco-conscious and distinctive interior designs. These materials are sourced from dismantled barns, factories, and buildings, giving old wood a second life and reducing environmental impact. Available in various finishes and textures, reclaimed woods can fit styles from rustic to modern. Carefully kiln-dried, they ensure stability, ease of installation, and enduring appeal.
