Rebond- 6 ounce and 8-ounce
A carpet pad’s density is measured in the weight per cubic foot, the higher its weight the denser the pad is. In general, the denser the pad the more durable it is, as well as the better sound dampening for acoustics. Carpet pads can weigh between 3 to 10 ounces; however, 6-8 ounces is typical. 6-ounce pads are pretty durable; however, 8 ounce is even better and can guarantee a longer carpet life. Rebonded carpets are made from 100% recycled materials and therefore give a multi-colored appearance.
Synthetic Horsehair Pads
These are designed to replicate real horsehair carpet padding using synthetic fibers, which are both breathable and firm, while maintaining their shape. These are cheaper than real horsehair padding, but ensure durability, comfort, and support.
Real Horsehair Pads
These are made from actual horsehair fibers but often combined with wool or cotton. Their natural fibers provide breathability, durability, and resilience as well as excellent support with long-lasting comfort. These are considered high end, being one of the more expensive paddings, they are excellent quality that keep their shape over time.
Felt Pads
These pads have great stability, grip, durability, and are even hypoallergenic. Felt pads are compressed and can be made from natural fibers such as wool or synthetic fibers. Providing moderate cushioning, they are great for reducing noise. They are both affordable and versatile and provide good protection for surfaces.
Rubber Pads
This type of padding is a great durable option and is fantastic for high traffic areas because of their moisture resistance and noise reduction. Rubber padding can be either natural or synthetic and can be soft on the feet, being either waffle (having a texture) or slab (which is flat). This is a more expensive padding, but lasts a long time, making them great for high traffic areas, especially commercial projects.
Foam Pads
These pads are amazing for comfort, shock and sound absorption, are good insulators, being both lightweight and versatile. Foam pads can be one of the cheaper types of pads and be made from natural or synthetic fibers. They come in a large range of densities, and styles: memory foam, high-density foam, prime foam, frothed foam, polyurethane, etc. Depending on the type they can either be water resistant or absorbent.
