Dashmesh's Shuttle Loom With Jacquard

This is a video of a jacquard loom at work. It gives us a look at how fast these looms work. I always thought that these looms were just left to do their thing but there actually are people watching them at all times. The looms in this video are the same as looms we have seen in other videos just older. They still used punch cards rather than a computer. They are very large and take up a lot of space. But they are creating beautiful designs that only Jacquard looms can make.

Recycling Plastic Bottles into Polyester Yarn on "How It's Made"
  • They convert plastic bottles into chip form
  • Then they dri them so the final product is stronger
  • Then they get melted into a thick liquid that is ready to be turned into fiber
  • This liquid gets pressed through a die plate into small filaments, they cool and harden as they exit the die
  • Each fiber is 10x finer than a single human hair
  • Then the filaments are untangled and rolled onto a spool
  • Then a machine heats it up again and stretches it to realine the molecules
  • Then other machines twist it and it goes back onto other spools
  • The yarn is now more like wool and less like dental floss
  • This process takes just a couple of weeks

  1. Great job! Your summaries were short but well done. I liked how you shared how you shared that you discovered that people were actually observing the looms at all times. I also learned that!
